What you can expect

Begin your journey with a scenic drive from Akureyri through the beautiful northern countryside. Make your first stop at Ljósavatn, a peaceful lake offering a quick photo opportunity and a chance to enjoy the tranquil Icelandic scenery.

Next, visit one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls, Goðafoss, the Waterfall of the Gods. Walk along the viewing paths, take photos, and admire the powerful turquoise water cascading into the canyon below.

Continue towards the Lake Mývatn region and explore the Skútustaðagígar pseudo-craters, unique volcanic formations created by steam explosions thousands of years ago. Enjoy beautiful panoramic views over the lake and surrounding landscapes.

Head to Dimmuborgir, often called the “Dark Castles,” where dramatic lava formations create a mysterious maze of towers, caves, and arches. This stop also includes time for lunch, with local restaurants and cafés available nearby.

Next, visit Grjótagjá, a small lava cave with a geothermal hot spring inside. The crystal blue water and volcanic surroundings make this a fascinating and photogenic location. Visitors are asked to respect the fragile environment and keep the area clean.

Before returning to Akureyri, experience the otherworldly terrain known as the Fly Lands, where geothermal activity and volcanic forces have shaped a landscape unlike anywhere else in Iceland. After a day filled with natural wonders, relax on the drive back to Akureyri with plenty of time before your ship’s departure.
