What you can expect

This experience begins in Bogotá at 6:50 AM, where we will take public transport (a van) for 1 hour and 15 minutes to the town centre of Choachí. From there, we will board a 4x4 vehicle for a 50-minute ride to the start of the trail. During this journey, we will have the opportunity to see beautiful Andean landscapes, featuring rugged mountains and rural communities.

At around 9:30 a.m., we will arrive at the starting point of the trek, where we will be joined by an additional local guide, a member of the farmers' association that has successfully carried out an ecosystem restoration process at this location. Our experience will be led by local guides who will gradually share with us and teach us all the ecological and biological details of this incredible ecosystem.

We will gradually ascend through the forest, passing the agricultural frontier and the recovering forests until we reach the primary forest, where we will find the world's tallest frailejón forest. This area is considered endemic to Colombia and Choachí. This beautiful forest is home to the Andean bear, so there is a good chance of spotting one on some of the trails we will be hiking.

We will see exotic orchids, birds, giant trees, and an incredible diversity of Andean flowers. During the tour, our guide will share amazing details about several of the species we will encounter. It is an immersion in knowledge and mountaineering.

After climbing for nearly 2 hours, we will reach Paramillo Lagoon, a beautiful lagoon fed directly by water from the Chingaza National Park and the buffer zone forest. At this point, we will have lunch, using our own snacks, and enjoy a break with a spectacular view of the forest.

Afterwards, we will head to the Mirador del Oso, a hill that offers a view of the entire forest. To reach it, we will pass through the remarkably well-preserved cloud forest, known as the Primary Forest.

We will enjoy the ascent and descent to our next stop, the Tuche Waterfall, where we can cool off if the day is sunny or meditate to enjoy the tranquility of the place and the power and energy of the sound of the water.

From here, we will continue our descent until we get back into the 4x4 vehicle, return to the entrance of the rural tourism association, then on to Choachí, and finally to Bogotá.
