What you can expect

  • Embark on an enchanting winter journey through the heart of the Canadian Rockies as we explore the breathtaking landscapes of Abraham Lake and the iconic Icefields Parkway. This immersive tour combines the magic of frozen natural wonders, stunning mountain vistas, and the serene beauty of winter, making it an unforgettable experience for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.

    Itinerary:

    1. Departure:
Meeting Point: Your adventure begins early in the morning at a selected meeting point in Banff or Canmore, where your friendly and knowledgeable driver/guide will greet you.
2: Abraham Lake: Arrive at the mesmerising Abraham Lake, famous for its stunning ice bubbles that form beneath the lake's surface during winter. These bubbles, created by the decomposition of organic matter, freeze in place, resulting in a striking visual display of suspended bubbles.
Your guide will lead you onto the frozen lake, where you’ll have ample time to explore and photograph. Witness the intricate patterns and formations in the ice, and learn about the science behind this unique phenomenon.
3: Scenic Drive Along the Icefields Parkway: After your ice bubble exploration, board the vehicle for a picturesque drive along the Icefields Parkway, often hailed as one of the most scenic highways in the world. This stretch of road boasts dramatic mountain peaks, sprawling forests, and icy rivers that shimmer in the winter sun.
4: Peyto Lake Viewpoint: Arrive at the trailhead for the trek to the Peyto Lake viewpoint, known for its striking heart-shaped outline and stunning turquoise waters that are often frozen in winter. The hike is moderate, taking you through a beautiful forest blanketed in snow, with occasional breaks for panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
5: Bow Lake: A stunning glacial lake nestled between majestic mountain peaks, Bow Lake is known for its vibrant turquoise waters, particularly during the summer months. In winter, it offers a serene, snow-covered landscape.
Activities: Opportunities for photography, short walks along the shoreline, and learning about the lake's glacial origins.
6: Wildlife Sightings: The Icefields Parkway is also known for its diverse wildlife. Visitors may spot elk, deer, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and even bears in the winter months.
7: Return Journey: Relax and Reflect: As you make your way back along the Icefields Parkway, take a moment to reflect on the day’s adventures and share stories with fellow travellers. The return journey provides additional opportunities for stunning photography as the lighting changes with the setting sun.
If we have extra time we will stop at an additional place.
