Our adventure begins in the early hours of the morning when our professional guide will pick you up directly from your hotel in Cusco, accompanied by our comfortable tourist van, at approximately 3:00 a.m.
From Cusco, we travel for approximately two hours through the beautiful Andean highlands to the town of Cusipata, where we enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast with a variety of local and international options, providing the perfect start to the day's adventure.
After breakfast, we continue our journey for approximately 2.5 hours towards Sibinacocha Lagoon. During the journey, we pass through impressive Andean landscapes, remote communities, and high-altitude plains until reaching this spectacular natural destination.
At Sibinacocha Lagoon, we make a stop to appreciate the incredible beauty of this immense high-altitude lake, considered one of the largest lakes in the Cusco region, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and untouched landscapes. This is a perfect opportunity to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, admire the scenery, and take memorable photographs.
After visiting Sibinacocha Lagoon, we continue our journey for approximately 30 minutes until reaching Puerto Cáliz, the final point accessible by vehicle and the starting point of our hike to the Quelccaya Glacier, the largest tropical glacier in the world.
From the bus station at Puerto Cáliz, we begin our hike towards the Quelccaya Glacier. The walk takes approximately 50 minutes each way and follows a moderate trail through impressive glacial landscapes. Along the route, we enjoy breathtaking views of the Andes, surrounded by towering mountains, pristine valleys, glacial streams, and unique high-altitude scenery.
Upon reaching the Quelccaya Glacier, we have time to admire its immense ice walls, explore the surroundings, and take unforgettable photographs of one of Peru’s most extraordinary natural wonders. Here, we may have the opportunity to enter and explore the impressive natural glacier caves, walking inside these enormous ice formations and experiencing the incredible blue ice colours created over thousands of years. This unforgettable experience allows us to appreciate the beauty and magnitude of one of the largest tropical glaciers in the world.
After enjoying the glacier experience, we return by the same trail for approximately 50 minutes back to Puerto Cáliz, where our vehicle will be waiting.
We then continue our journey by vehicle to the Andean community of Phinaya, where we enjoy a traditional lunch prepared with fresh local ingredients.
In the afternoon, we begin our scenic return journey to Cusco along the same highland route, enjoying the final views of the remote Andean landscapes. The experience concludes with drop-off near Cusco’s Plaza de Armas, with arrival expected between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., depending on road and traffic conditions.
