What you can expect

  • Explore the Montemor-o-Novo Castle, one of the most emblematic monuments in the Alentejo region. Learn about the castle's history and enjoy panoramic views of the Alentejo landscape.

Start your tour with a convenient transfer from Évora or Montemor. Upon arrival, learn about the castle's origins, which date back to the Reconquista in the 13th century. The area has been occupied since pre-Roman times. The castle was expanded and strengthened over the centuries, particularly during the medieval and modern periods.

In 1203, the castle received the charter of D. Sancho I and was later reformed by D. Dinis. Explore the castle's walls and towers, which offer a glimpse of medieval military architecture. The towers provide spectacular views of the city and the surrounding landscape.

Visit the Church of Santiago, located inside the castle, an impressive example of medieval religious architecture. Stroll through the ruins to imagine life in the castle during its glory days.

Admire the incredible panoramic views of the Alentejo, especially at sunset. After your tour, enjoy a convenient transfer back to Évora or Montemor.
