Would you like to touch the very origins of Japanese mythology and journey through hidden memories deep within a gorge on a single trip?
This carefully crafted route takes you from Fukuoka into the hidden wonders of Takachiho in Miyazaki Prefecture, where nature and ancient legends intertwine.

Departure from Hakata Station Chikushi Exit – Morning Assembly
Depart at 8:00 AM from the Lawson convenience store at Hakata Station Chikushi Exit (next to the Oriental Hotel). This is the starting point that will carry you into the land of myths. Please arrive 10 minutes early with anticipation in your heart.

Takachiho Gorge – 30 Minutes of Wonder
Arrive at 11:00 AM. The gorge was formed by eruptions of Mount Aso, creating a V-shaped valley lined with columnar basalt cliffs that rise like a giant's harp. Overlooking from the edge, the Manai Falls plunge 17 metres through mist and light. A 30-minute stop is enough to capture breathtaking photos.

Takachiho Boat Ride or Free Time (Optional, 60 minutes, boat ticket not included)
At 12:00 PM, you may choose to join the Takachiho boat ride at your own expense, or simply enjoy free time. If you choose the boat ride, you can row into the depths of the gorge, looking up at the waterfall and rock walls as if stepping into the legend of Amano-Iwato. The water is serene, broken only by the sound of oars and birds.

Takachiho Amaterasu Line (Optional, 40 minutes, ticket not included)
At 1:00 PM, you may optionally experience the Amaterasu Line at your own expense, where a small train runs along an old track through forests and tunnels. The scenery outside the window unfolds like a painted scroll.
Please note: If the train cannot be reserved or is under maintenance, this stop will be replaced by a visit to Takachiho Shrine.

Amano Iwato – Where the Gods Gathered (60 minutes)
At 3:00 PM, head to Amano Iwato. This cave is where, in Japanese mythology, the gods gathered to discuss how to lure Amaterasu out of the Heavenly Rock Cave. Walking down the stone steps, among the stream and moss, countless stone towers of wishes are stacked. This is a place where silence and prayers meet.

Return to Hakata – Evening Journey Home
Arrive back at the Lawson convenience store at Hakata Station Chikushi Exit by 6:30 PM. As the sun sets over Fukuoka, the lingering myths of Takachiho gently conclude the day.
