Get to know these unique castles just a few kilometres away from Jaén. Surrounded by extensive olive groves and settled on hills from where you can contemplate a unique landscape. We are waiting for you to share with us the rich history and cultural and monumental heritage of Alcalá la Real and Alcaudete.
What awaits you
Visit Alcalá la Real, a strategic enclave due to its proximity to different Andalusian provinces. The imposing Fortress of La Mota, an old medieval walled city from the Nasrid period, stands out. In it we can visit the old medina, the citadel and the fortress, where the Mocha tower, the Torre de la Vela and the Torre del Homenaje stand out, among others.
Alcaudete is located in the Sierra Sur region and was located on the old road from the Guadalquivir to Granada. The Alcaudete castle stands out, located on a hill that allows us to enjoy views that leave no one indifferent. Its elliptical shape is striking, adapting well to the terrain on which it sits. From the beginning, it served to combat the internal struggles of the Caliphate of Córdoba. In Almohad times it was expanded and fortified and an important medina arose around its castle. In Christian times, it will be handed over to the Order of Calatrava who will adapt the place until it reaches its current appearance.
