Travel from Manila to the mountain village of Buscalan on a two-day journey into the cultural traditions of Kalinga. Surrounded by the landscapes of the Cordillera Mountains, this experience combines scenic road travel, a village trek, and time to connect with the heritage of the Butbut community in a place where daily life remains closely tied to tradition.

As you travel north overnight, take in changing views along the route, from mountain roads and river valleys to terraces and mist-covered peaks. Depending on the route taken, the trip may include a stop at Banaue View Point or Northern Blossom, followed by the turning point where your trek to Buscalan begins. After the moderate walk into the village, spend time getting to know the community, observing local life, and appreciating the quiet rhythm of this remote setting.

A visit to Buscalan may also include the chance to meet Apo Whang-Od, known for preserving the traditional hand-tapped tattoo practice of the region. For travellers interested in this cultural art form, getting a tattoo can be a meaningful optional part of the experience. You may also choose simply to learn about the tradition, meet local artists, explore the village, and enjoy the mountain scenery. The journey ends with your return carrying a deeper appreciation of Kalinga’s living heritage and the stories shared along the way.
