What you can expect

  • Discover the rich history, culture, and landscapes of northern Portugal on a full-day guided tour through the beautiful Minho region. Travel from Porto to the historic cities of Braga and Guimarães, two of Portugal’s most iconic destinations, known for their religious heritage, medieval charm, and UNESCO-listed landmarks.

Meet your guide in Porto and begin your journey to Braga, one of the oldest Christian cities in the world and an important spiritual centre of Portugal. Explore the vibrant historic centre, filled with elegant plazas, charming streets, traditional cafés, and impressive Baroque architecture. Visit the magnificent Braga Cathedral (optional), the oldest cathedral in Portugal, renowned for its unique mix of Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque styles.

Continue to the iconic Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary, one of Portugal’s most breathtaking landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Admire its monumental Baroque staircase decorated with fountains, statues, and gardens while enjoying panoramic views over Braga and the surrounding Minho countryside. Afterwards, enjoy free time for lunch and discover local flavours in the city centre.

The tour then continues to Guimarães, widely known as the birthplace of Portugal and the hometown of the country’s first king, Afonso Henriques. Explore the impressive medieval Guimarães Castle (optional), a symbol of Portugal’s foundation and independence. Walk through the UNESCO World Heritage historic centre, where cobbled streets, picturesque squares, medieval houses, and centuries-old churches create a unique and timeless atmosphere.

Admire landmarks such as the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza and enjoy the lively character of the city through its local shops, cafés, and traditional architecture. Throughout the day, your expert guide will share fascinating stories and insights into the history, traditions, and culture of the Minho region, bringing northern Portugal’s heritage to life.

Return to Porto with unforgettable memories of medieval cities, stunning monuments, scenic landscapes, and authentic Portuguese culture.
