What you can expect

With our Mount Tarn Trekking excursion, you will get to know a mountain range of approximately 850 metres high, formed by rocks of marine origin. It is located at the southern end of the Brunswick Peninsula, about 70 kilometres south of Punta Arenas. The soil has high humidity due to the high rainfall in the region, so the climate is typical of Patagonia, temperate, cold, with high humidity.

Beginning of the Mount Tarn Trekking
The Mount Tarn Trekking begins with the pick up of the passengers at the hotel, and then we head south of Punta Arenas. On our way, we will pass by Fort Bulnes at kilometre 57, but we will not get to visit it, as our excursion goes further south. Upon arrival at the trailhead, we will listen to our tour guide's instructions and then begin our trek.

From the beginning, we will cross a lush forest with species such as Magellan coihue, canelo, Guaitecas cypress, peat bogs and creeping plants. After approximately 4 hours we will reach the summit of Mount Tarn. From the summit, you will be able to observe the Strait of Magellan, the San Isidro lighthouse, the Dawson Islands, Tierra del Fuego and the great Darwin Mountain Range. We will rest and enjoy the views at the summit for about 30 minutes before we start our return from our Mount Tarn trek along the same trail.

Mount Tarn and Biologist Charles Darwin
This route was made by the prestigious scientist Charles Darwin in 1834 with his team, who also named it Mount Tarn. It was baptized with that name during the second voyage of the Beagle by its captain Robert FitzRoy, to celebrate the twenty-fifth birthday of Charles Darwin, on February 12, 1834. In addition to Mount Sarmiento and the entire Brunswick Peninsula.
