What you can expect

Make your way to the Hacienda Campo Rico and feel like you are in a completely different world as you pass through the entrance gates. On a 2-hour horse riding adventure experience the home of different tropical plants and animals and see stunning landscapes.

Upon arrival, meet your experienced guides and receive basic instructions and safety procedures before you set off on your horse. Get acquainted with your horse, and then follow the guides through 2,200 acres of private land. Soak up the Caribbean sun as you trot around.

Marvel at magnificent views of the mountains and coastal plains. Come across lagoons and curious limestone rock formations. Keep a lookout for the native wildlife roaming freely in their natural habitats. Learn the history and importance of the Puerto Rico Paso Fino horses.

Then, go to the hilltop Mojito Bar and cool down with some refreshing drinks of your choice. Purchase souvenirs at the on-site gift shop, where you can also rent GoPro cameras and other equipment to turn your horse ride adventure into an experience to remember.

I enjoyed the 2 hr ride because it didn’t feel rushed. Our tour guide was nice and safety was always a priority. Our tour guide was Fabiola an experienced rider and we enjoyed the trail through the ranch and able to relax in the mojito bar. The horses were calm and cared for. I would do it again.

Pros and cons. Their petting zoo area gets no stars. Turtles and some birds are in wire cages barely bigger than they are, with no access to food or water. Horrendous living conditions! The horse ride was spent mostly trotting, which was pretty uncomfortable. We did gallop a bit and walk sometimes, which was fun. It was nice to feel like you're really riding horses and not just sitting on a horse that's walking along like a zombie. The trail guide wasn't a tour guide, so we didn't learn about all the things the ride description said to expect. She pointed out a papaya tree and had basic answers to direct questions, but that was it. She was good on the lead horse. Overall, at $100 it's a little overpriced for what it was. I was there for the riding experience though, thus the three stars. If you're looking for a tour or nice scenery, or if you feel it's important that animals should be cared for and not just put on display for entertainment, skip this one.

Never made it on the tour. Husband did not come in under 250 pound weight limit. I have a feeling many people are above this and they need to have bigger horses.
