Leave Tbilisi in the morning and head north towards the mountains. Your first stop is the beautiful Zhinvali Reservoir, known for its turquoise water and dramatic mountain scenery. Enjoy time for photos before continuing to nearby Ananuri Fortress, a historic 16th–17th-century complex overlooking the reservoir. Explore its churches, defensive towers, and panoramic viewpoints while learning about Georgia’s fascinating history.
Continue through the Aragvi Valley towards Pasanauri, where you can see the meeting point of the Black and White Aragvi rivers. Along the way, enjoy a short complimentary tasting of traditional Georgian products, including local honey and chacha.
The journey then takes you higher into the Greater Caucasus Mountains to Gudauri, one of Georgia’s best-known mountain resorts. Stop at the famous Russia–Georgia Friendship Monument, also known as the Gudauri Panorama, located high above the valley. Take in spectacular views of deep gorges, mountain peaks, and the surrounding Caucasus landscape.
From Gudauri, continue towards Stepantsminda, also known as Kazbegi, surrounded by some of the most impressive scenery in Georgia.
The highlight of the day is the legendary Gergeti Trinity Church, located at approximately 2,170 metres above sea level beneath the mighty Mount Kazbek. Depending on road conditions, you can take an optional local 4×4 vehicle up to the church. From Gergeti, enjoy unforgettable panoramic views over Stepantsminda and the surrounding Caucasus Mountains.
During the tour, there will also be time for lunch at a local Georgian restaurant, where you can choose from traditional dishes such as khinkali, khachapuri, grilled meats, salads, and other Georgian specialities.
