Alvarado
Located 72 km south of the cruise port of Veracruz, at the mouth of the Blanco and Papaloapan rivers, this picturesque town is named after the conquistador Pedro de Alvarado. Renowned for its cheerful atmosphere and hospitable people, Alvarado stands out for its rich cuisine (such as the famous seafood, guava empanadas, and vol-au-vents) and traditions such as the Feria de las Cruces in May.

Tlacotalpan
Just 18 km from Alvarado, this charming town, declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, is the birthplace of Veracruz folklore. Its colourful streets, with houses featuring traditional architecture, are home to the Ferrando Museum, the House of Agustín Lara, the Church of La Candelaria, and the Nezahualcóyotl Theatre.
