Step away from the coast and travel into the wild landscapes of inland Dalmatia, where deep caves, dramatic mountain scenery, and legendary film locations tell a very different storey of Croatia.
Departing from Zadar’s old town peninsula, we drive towards the southern slopes of Velebit Mountain, entering a region shaped by karst, stone, and cinematic history.
Our first stop is the Cerovačke Caves, the largest cave complex in Croatia and one of the country’s most impressive underground natural monuments. Accompanied by a licensed local guide, you’ll explore spectacular chambers filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and ancient geological formations. The caves maintain a constant cool temperature, offering a refreshing escape during warmer months.
After the cave visit, we continue to a local countryside restaurant, where a traditional lunch is served. Expect simple, hearty regional dishes prepared in the Dalmatian hinterland style—authentic, seasonal, and far from tourist menus.
In the afternoon, we dive into Croatia’s unexpected connection to the Wild West. This region served as a filming location for the legendary Winnetou films from the 1960s, where dramatic canyons and mountain backdrops replaced the American frontier.
We visit the Winnetou Museum in Starigrad, located in Bluesun Holiday Village Alan. Inside, you’ll find original film props, photographs from the set, and rooms where actors once stayed—offering a unique behind-the-scenes look at this cult film phenomenon.
The experience concludes with a stop at Pariževačka Glavica, a spectacular viewpoint above the Adriatic Sea. This iconic location appeared in multiple Winnetou films and offers sweeping views of cliffs, islands, and open sea—one of the most dramatic panoramas in the region and a perfect photo stop.
Travel comfortably by air-conditioned vehicle and enjoy a relaxed, story-driven day led by a knowledgeable local guide who connects nature, history, and film in a way standard tours do not.
When the weather isn’t ideal for the beach, this carefully designed inland experience offers the perfect alternative from Zadar—combining underground nature, local cuisine, and iconic film locations.
