What you can expect

  • Explore the Munakata-taisha Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with a professional guide. Learn about the beliefs of the shrine, the history of beliefs associated with the shrine, the ancient animistic culture, and even the foundations of Japanese philosophy.

Meet your guide and head to the Munakata-taisha Shrine. Admire the ancient Japanese-style shrine architecture and the ritual space that evokes ancient animism within its precincts.

In these ritual spaces, the ancient rituals are still held, and the shrine still has a large congregation of believers. The shrine has been widely worshipped from ancient times to the present day, but its faith is shrouded in mystery.

The shrine has other characteristics, but perhaps the most impressive of these is that it has two other shrines, both of which are located on remote islands, and are off-limits to all but the priests.

Visit the museum attached to the shrine and learn about the history of the shrine and the beliefs associated with it.
