Overview

Just outside Tokyo lies an overlooked rural setting rarely seen by tourists. Your private tour begins with pickup by private car at your hotel. We'll travel to just west of the Tokyo border to the quaint Ranzan mountain valley. The area is surrounded by mountains, covered with forests, and dotted with temples and shrines which have been standing for hundreds of years. At each stop we'll have a chance to wander around the walkways and trails to learn more about the culture and history all while taking in some fresh air. Sengenyama Miharashi No Oka Park

Over to the Miharashi Park on top of Sengenyama Mountain which has an excellent viewing platform to take in the entire valley. (The longest roller slide for kids or adults is also available if you'd like to give it a try.)
Ranzan Valley

We'll move over to a valley with walking trails visited by the Imperial family. River, forest, views of the valley if we climb. Up to you. It's a short hike up or we can take a winding flat well defined path.
Daishoji Temple

Built in the 1340's this colourful Buddhist temple sits aside a small mountain. Very pretty temple with mountain and valley views.
Kamagata Hachiman Shrine

Off to this Shinto Shrine for a compare and contrast to a Buddhist temple, Kamagata Hachiman Shrine is said to have been built in the 780's. Forest location with torii gate entrance, the shrine was used for as a location for a national TV period drama.
Shoboji Temple (Iwadono Kannon)

For me, the 700 year old gingko tree is the highlight to this 1,300 year old temple with buildings, bell, and approach rising up from the community below. There are also neighbouring trails and a 5th generation run local restaurant.
