Day 1: Arrival in Goroka – Highlands Welcome, Town Tour & Craft Market Visit
Arrive in Goroka via domestic flight. Meet and greet by the Trek 4 Life team and transfer to your hotel. Enjoy a morning to early afternoon Goroka town tour, including Goroka Main Market, J.K. McCarthy Museum (optional), local coffee shops, and key town landmarks.
In the afternoon, visit the Goroka Craft Market, where locally made souvenirs, bilums, carvings, and cultural items are available for purchase. Take time to relax and adjust to the Highlands climate. In the evening, attend a full Mt Wilhelm trek briefing, covering the trekking route, safety procedures, altitude awareness, and equipment checks. Have dinner and stay overnight in Goroka.
Day 2: Goroka – Dunlop Pass – Kundiawa – Keglsugl (Base Village)
After breakfast, depart Goroka by 4x4 vehicle towards Kundiawa in Simbu Province. En route, stop at the scenic Dunlop Pass, one of the highest road passes in the Papua New Guinea Highlands, offering spectacular mountain views and excellent photo opportunities.
Continue the journey down to Kundiawa for a lunch stop before driving on to Keglsugl village, the traditional gateway to Mt Wilhelm. Meet local guides and porters, finalise trekking arrangements, and settle into the village guesthouse. Have dinner with the local community and stay overnight in Keglsugl.
Day 3: Keglsugl – Pindaunde Lakes (Trekking Day 1)
After an early breakfast, begin the trek from Keglsugl village. The trail passes through dense moss forest, bamboo groves, and alpine vegetation, with gradual altitude gain. Take regular rest stops along the way. Arrive at Pindaunde Lakes campsite (approx. 3,600m) in the afternoon. Set up camp, enjoy dinner, and stay overnight at the campsite under the stars.
Day 4: Mt Wilhelm Summit – Return to Keglsugl
Summit day begins early (around 1:00–3:00am). Guided ascent to the summit of Mt Wilhelm (4,509m) to witness sunrise over the Highlands. Spend time at the summit for photos and celebration before descending back to Pindaunde Lakes for a late breakfast or brunch. Continue descent to Keglsugl village in the afternoon. Have dinner, enjoy cultural interaction with locals, and stay overnight in the village.
Day 5: Keglsugl – Kundiawa – Goroka
After breakfast, say farewell to the local hosts and depart by vehicle back to Kundiawa, then continue onward to Goroka. Spend the afternoon at leisure to rest or explore Goroka at your own pace. Have dinner and stay overnight in Goroka.
Day 6: Goroka – Port Moresby (Departure)
Have breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Goroka Airport for the morning flight to Port Moresby. End of tour.
