Alternative Tour of Guatemala City: Off the Beaten Track
Description:
Dive into a different urban experience with this alternative tour of Guatemala City. Designed for curious travellers, this tour takes you to unique, creative, and cultural spaces that showcase a different side of the city, away from traditional tourism, but in safe areas with great local value.
️ Itinerary:
National Library and Pasaje Rubio (Zone 1)
It kicks off in the historic heart, but in corners that few visit. We'll explore the inside of the National Library and stroll through Pasaje Rubio, an alley with ancient architecture, hidden cafes, and used book stores.
Cuatro Grados Norte (Zone 4)
A renovated area with a focus on art, design, and urban life. Here, you'll check out independent galleries, urban murals, and creative coworking spaces. Free time to explore cafés with a local identity or sustainable shops.
La Terminal Market (safe area)
An authentic look at local commerce, with a focus on exotic fruits, textiles, and everyday life. We'll focus on safe sections, always with a guide, where you can try fresh products and chat with vendors.
Lomas de Pamplona – Cultural Viewpoint (Zone 5)
A little-known viewpoint with spectacular views of the city, featuring community art and meeting spaces. A project brought to you by local cultural organisations. Quiet and safe for visitors.
Popol Vuh Museum or Ixchel Museum of Indigenous Costume (Francisco Marroquín University)
An enriching stop to learn about Mayan history and traditional textiles in a modern, safe environment with well-kept gardens.
