What you can expect

  • The walk is designed as a pure elevation of body and soul… so wear comfortable shoes because we're about to start climbing.
First, we'll see the town from below, as it appears terraced on the slopes of Mount Ingino. The Church of San Francesco welcomes you to Gubbio, where we'll discover why SAINT FRANCIS tamed the wolf. We'll also see the city's old suburbs, which are used as a dye works with a canal for dyeing and rinsing fabrics and an area for drying and ironing. This is the SAN MARTINO QUARTER.
The BARGELLO FOUNTAIN graces the central square, which is bordered on one side by the former headquarters of the Local Police Chief, the PALAZZO DEL BARGELLO, and runs almost parallel to VIA DEI CONSOLI. Walk around the fountain three times, and you'll consider yourself a true “madman” of Gubbio.
PIAZZA GRANDE is a 14th-century sloping square, an open space that proudly showcases the PALAZZO DEI CONSOLI, the seat of the city's former political leaders.
Finally, the Cathedral with its magnificent views, with the city of the Eugubini below and the BASILICA OF SAINT UBALDO towering above us, the final destination of the RACE OF THE CANDLES every May 15.
Finally, we'll enter the Ducal Palace of Federico da Montefeltro: nobleman, warrior, and patron of the arts in the 15th century. An exact replica has been created there of the study where he meditated and pursued his favourite hobbies, a wooden office adorned with the symbols most cherished by the Lord of the Palace. The original is now in New York, and the exact replica is in this wonderful palace.
