What you can expect

  • We start our walk through the history of Hamburg's Speicherstadt at the birthplace and cradle of Hamburg's harbour,

    We take a critical look at the founding charter of our harbour and discover a few contradictions.

    Afterwards, we continue our tour towards the Elbphilharmonie, admiring the great history of the square where this building stands today.

    We'll look at how the harbour changed during industrialisation in the 19th century.
    And how the movement of goods was revolutionized in the 20th century.

    We immerse ourselves in Speicherstadt, in the red brick canyons and the history of its workers and employers, and clarify what Westphalia has to do with Hamburg and why workers lived in a castle there.

    Find out exactly what Schutenschubser, Ewerführer, Windenwärter, and Kaffeeverleserinnen actually did and why there are Kaffeebarone and Perser in Hamburg.
