What you can expect

Journey high into the Andes Mountains and walk among the ruins of Machu Picchu. Your guide takes you to the most significant sites—the Temple of the Three Windows, the Temple of the Sun, and the Sun Stone—and shares the mysterious stories tied to each one.

Meet your guide in Aguas Calientes for the short bus ride up to Machu Picchu, or tackle the trail on foot if you're feeling daring and have the time. Your guide leads you on to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, an ancient architectural wonder of rock walls and manicured terraces cut into steep terrain. At 7,970-feet (2,430 m) above sea level it’s almost as if you're at the top of the world in this sacred mountain-ringed valley.

As you step inside the remains of the Temple of the Three Windows, listen to the storey of the Incas. Climb up to the Temple of the Sun, a semi-circular rock structure built around a solid granite altar. Stand in the very place the Incan priests may have performed sacrifices, and discover the significance of the trapezoidal windows.

Later, your guide points out the Intihuatana—the Sun Stone—a large carved rock believed to have been a religious astronomical clock or calendar. As you stroll along the stone terrace walls, take in the tranquil setting, where llamas and alpacas roam freely, grazing on the lush grass.
