What you can expect

  • Discover one of the greatest treasures of prehistoric art on this visit to the Altamira Museum's Neocave, an exact replica of the famous Cave of Altamira, a World Heritage Site.

The experience begins with a brief introduction that will let you learn about the history of the discovery of Altamira, the first cave in the world to be discovered with cave paintings, thanks to Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola and his daughter María.

Next, you'll watch a short video that recreates life in the time of Altamira, and you'll be able to imagine how its first inhabitants lived, getting a sense of their environment, their customs, and the context in which these impressive artistic expressions emerged.

The most eagerly awaited moment will come with the guided visit inside the Neocave, where we'll be able to admire its famous bison paintings up close. During the tour, you'll discover how these masterpieces were created thousands of years ago, from the preparation of the pigments to the techniques used by Palaeolithic artists.

Once the tour of the Neocave is over, you will have free time to explore the museum at your own pace. Its exhibits and explanatory panels will invite you to delve deeper into everything you've learned and to continue exploring the secrets of one of humanity's earliest artistic expressions.

An unmissable experience that combines history, emotion, and art, and that will allow you to connect with the deepest origins of human creativity.
