The tour starts at the Ohlsdorf cemetery entrance on Fuhlsbüttler Straße, near the Ohlsdorf underground and S-Bahn station.
On this walk through nature, you will learn everything about grave symbolism, burial culture and the history of the Ohlsdorf cemetery. Along the way you will discover countless beautiful angel sculptures, observe their hidden secrets and meanings.
The tour starts at the entrance to Ohlsdorf Cemetery, which was opened in 1877 and has been a UNESCO Intangible World Heritage Site since 2020. The walk takes you to various sights, including the administration building, the burial ground for Hamburg resistance fighters and the rose garden.
The tour takes you through the so-called Cordes part of the cemetery, which was laid out in the style of an English landscape garden. You will also come across some famous gravesites, including those of the Jahr, Köser and Tchibo families.
The tour ends near the starting point and takes around 2.5-3 hours. Please plan your start time accordingly as the tour is only recommended during daylight hours. Sturdy footwear is also recommended.
