What you can expect

Experience Heidelberg: The perfect combination of culture, history, and panorama

Heidelberg is one of the most beautiful cities in Germany and captivates visitors from all over the world. The unique location in the Neckar Valley, the historic old town, and the majestic castle ruins form a backdrop that inspired the poets of the Romantic era. This tour combines the absolute highlights of the city in an unforgettable day programme – from the lively streets in the valley up to the windswept heights of the Königstuhl.

To the summit: The Königstuhl
We start the day with a comfortable drive up to the Königstuhl. Once you reach an altitude of 568 metres, you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city. In good weather, Heidelberg's local mountain offers breathtaking views over the Neckar Valley, the Rhine Plain, and sometimes even as far as the Vosges Mountains.

Down to the castle by cable car
The Heidelberg mountain railway is an attraction in itself. The upper, nostalgic cable car takes us on a slow, steep ride to Molkenkur. From there, the lower railway, one of the most modern funiculars in Germany, takes you to the castle in a few minutes. Heidelberg Castle, the epitome of German Romanticism, towers majestically above the city. A walking tour through the castle courtyard and the castle garden reveals the eventful history of the former residence of the Electors Palatine.

World records and pharmacy history on the castle grounds
Two special highlights await within the castle walls: In the Königsaal building, there is access to the cellar, which houses the legendary Große Fass. The world's largest walk-in wine barrel was made in the 18th century from 130 oak trunks and holds over 219,000 litres of wine. Right next door, the German Pharmacy Museum invites you on a journey through time. The exhibits offer fascinating insights into the history of medicine from antiquity to the 21st century.

Through the Baroque Old Town
Now join us on a guided walking tour of the historic old town. As you stroll through the cobblestone streets, you can feel the vibrant atmosphere of the traditional university city. The route leads past baroque townhouses, cosy cafes, and buildings steeped in history. Highlights: Heiliggeistkirche, Alte Brücke, Zeughaus-Marstall and more… Of course, you will also have time here for your own exploration or a culinary treat.

The grand finale: The Philosophenweg
We end the day on the opposite side of the Neckar, where we set off on the famous Philosophenweg. This panoramic trail, which benefits from a favourable climate, owes its name to the Heidelberg scholars who once walked here. From here you can enjoy the classic postcard view: the deep blue ribbon of the Neckar, the Old Bridge, and the castle shining in the sunlight – we say goodbye to Heidelberg with a glass of Palatinate wine.
