Activity itinerary

High Street
  • 30m
Discover in depth some of the most charming streets in Killarney including Main & High Street while you take a stroll with your local expert guide who will show you some of the hidden highlights and share insights that you would never find or find out on your own. Admire and take photos of the attractive nineteenth century shop fronts and houses while you guide shares insightful stories that will elevate your immersion into the history and character of Killarney. Walk over history as you stroll down some of the eleven lanes off High Street, many of them still cobbled and very atmospheric, that once were the beating heart of the town including the Old Market Lane. Learn how the 4th Earl of Kenmare gave the land here, free of charge, to sub-agents who built houses and had the lanes named after them. There’s so much to see and discover but only when you have a local expert who can show you where to find the highlights.
Killarney House Gardens
  • 30m
Visit the picturesque Killarney House and Gardens nestled beyond the grand entrance to the National Park as you enter from the town. Here your guide will lead you on a guided stroll along pretty pathways weaving carefully through manicured gardens, an oasis of calm and an ideal starting point for a journey through the wonders of the National Park. Enter through the ‘golden gates’, with each pillar topped with a lamp and coronet, that were originally built as the entrance to the large Chateaux style house constructed by the Browne’s in 1721. This powerful family had previously lived in Ross Castle on the banks of Lough Leane. Your guide will illuminate the importance of this family and legacy and their connection to the town.
Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial
  • 10m
Visit this intriguing monument dedicated to Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty Monument. Throughout its history, Killarney has produced its fair share of influential people, but perhaps none more deserving of recognition than Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty, the heroic priest who helped saved thousands of lives in Nazi-occupied Rome during the Second World War. Credited with saving more than 6,500 people from certain death, Monsignor O’Flaherty became known as the Pimpernel of the Vatican and his achievements have inspired several books and films such as ‘The Scarlet and the Black’ where he was played by Gregory Peck.
Ross Castle
  • 20m
  • Admission ticket not included
Discover the exterior of Ross Castle and its spectacular location and surroundings. Ross Castle is famous of being being amongst the last to surrender to Oliver Cromwell during the Irish Confederate Wars. Listen to your guide's fascinating stories of the castle and its past.
