What you can expect

Visit the Icelandic Seal Centre, a non-profit company dedicated to seal research and sustainable seal watching tourism. Located in Hvammstangi, midway between Reykjavik and Akureyri, the centre offers a unique opportunity to learn about Iceland's endangered harbour seals and vulnerable grey seals.

Explore the museum's exhibits, which include old items, stuffed animals, and a documentary from the early years of the Icelandic Seal Centre. Discover the travels of a young grey seal pup named Snorri through an interactive screen.

Learn about the walrus in a special exhibition created in cooperation with the Icelandic Museum of Natural History. The museum is small, and the average guest spends about 20 minutes, but you can spend a few hours going through all the information if you wish.

The Icelandic Seal Centre is the first Icelandic company in the group of attractions to receive a Green Key certification for its commitment to sustainability. All the text in the museum is in Icelandic and English, with 90% also in German. There are also folders with a large part of the text in French and Spanish.

The centre is wheelchair accessible, with all facilities on one floor and a bathroom for people in wheelchairs. The Icelandic Seal Centre is open every day from May 1 to September 30 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and on weekdays from October 1 to April 30 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
