Overview

Across from Seville’s historic centre lies Triana. This colourful neighbourhood was relatively isolated from the rest of the city until the first fixed bridge opened in 1852.

On this self-guided walking tour, you’ll come to understand how this working-class district forged its own strong identity based on its industrial past and rich cultural heritage.

You’ll start the tour on the Puente de Triana bridge before diving into the narrow streets near the river, once home to Triana’s renowned ceramics industry and a royal soap factory. You’ll see beautiful tilework adorning Baroque churches, including Nuestra Señora de la O, and ornate Regionalist-style buildings like the former Montalván ceramics factory.

You’ll wind through the former Cava de los Gitanos, where the passionate art of flamenco emerged from generations of Roma families gathering to express their emotions through song and dance.

The tour ends with a spectacular view back across the river to Seville’s iconic skyline.

Activity itinerary

Triana (Pass by)

On this tour, we'll explore Triana, on the other side of the Guadalquivir river from Seville's city centre. Triana was traditionally a working-class neighbourhood famous for its ceramics industry and flamenco.

Puente de Isabel II (Puente de Triana) (Pass by)

Our tour starts on the Puente de Triana, which was the first fixed bridge across the River Guadalquivir in Seville when it was completed in 1852. From the bridge, we'll enjoy magnificent views across the river towards the historic centre of Seville.

Capilla Virgen del Carmen (Pass by)

Admire the Capilla del Carmen, an exquisite chapel designed by the architect behind Seville’s Plaza de España

Mercado de Triana (Pass by)

We'll pass by the Mercado de Triana, an excellent market with a traditional feel. There are many good tapas bars in the market, so it's a good place to grab a drink or to have lunch.

Museo Del Castillo De San Jorge (Pass by)

We'll also pass the Castillo de San Jorge, which was once the headquarters of the much-feared Inquisition. Admission to the castle is free, but opening hours vary depending on temporary exhibitions.

Centro Ceramica Triana (Pass by)

We'll pass by the Centro Ceramica Triana, which tells the storey of Triana's famous ceramics industry. However, entry to the museum is not included in this tour.

Capilla de los Marineros (Pass by)

We'll pass by the Capilla de los Marineros, which was once the chapel of Triana's mariners. Entry to the chapel is free, and it is worth going inside.

Iglesia de Santa Ana (Pass by)

We'll pass by the gothic-mudéjar church of Santa Ana, affectionately known as Triana's cathedral. However, entry to the church is not included in this tour.
