What you can expect

  • DAY 1: Arrival at the Angamos Community

Your adventure begins with pickup from your hotel or the Iquitos airport and transfer to Air Group No. 42 of the Peruvian Air Force. From there you will board a small plane or seaplane for a flight of approximately one hour over the Peruvian Amazon, enjoying impressive views of rivers, forests and natural landscapes.

Upon arriving at the community of Angamos, located near the border with Brazil, you will be greeted by members of the Matsés indigenous people, who will welcome you and offer you an introduction to their culture and traditions. You will then settle into your accommodation to rest and prepare for the days of the expedition.

DAYS 2–13: Total Immersion in Matsés Culture

During the following days you will navigate through Amazonian rivers until you enter the ancestral territory of the Matsés Reserve, one of the most remote and best preserved areas of the Amazon. Throughout the expedition you will live with Matsés families, participating in activities that are part of their daily lives and strengthening an authentic cultural exchange.

You will participate in agricultural work, learn traditional fishing techniques and learn about the ancestral use of medicinal plants used for generations. The walks through the jungle will allow you to observe birds, monkeys, amphibians and an extraordinary diversity of flora, while the Matsés guides will share their knowledge about biodiversity and survival in the tropical forest.

As night falls you will go on safaris to observe alligators, snakes, frogs and other nocturnal species. You will also travel along rivers and lakes in traditional canoes to contemplate the Amazonian fauna from a unique perspective. Each day will end with stories and legends shared by the elders around the fire, in addition to the possibility of purchasing authentic crafts or participating, optionally, in traditional ceremonies such as the “Nënë” Sacred Tobacco Ritual or the Kambô Ceremony, guided by a Matsés master.

    DAY 14: Return to Angamos

After saying goodbye to the Matsés Reserve, you will begin the return trip sailing through the Amazon rivers until you reach the community of Angamos again. There you can rest, share the last moments with the community and remember the experiences lived during the expedition.

    DAY 15: Return to Iquitos

After breakfast you will board the small plane or seaplane to return to the city of Iquitos. During the flight you will enjoy a last panoramic view of the Amazon jungle before ending a unique experience of coexistence with the Matsés people, taking with you unforgettable memories and a deep knowledge of one of the most authentic indigenous cultures of the Amazon.
