The Spanish founded the village in the 16th century to keep it out of sight of pirates. The village is located in a valley in the northwest of the island and offers beautiful views of both the east and west coasts. Rincon is also called the "cultural village" because of the many traditions, festivities and customs that are still celebrated there.

Seru Largu also means “large hill” and from the top, you can see the capital city of Kralendijk, the entire southside of the island and the little island of Klein Bonaire. There is a monument at the site which reads in the Papiamentu language as “Kristu Ayera Awe Semper” which means “Christ, Yesterday, Today and Forever”.
