What you can expect

  • The Gunung Padang site is a prehistoric megalithic cultural heritage site located on the border of Gunung Padang and Panggulan hamlets, Karyamukti Village, Campaka District, Cianjur Regency. The location can be reached 20 kilometres from the crossroads of the city of Warungkondang sub-district. The area of the main complex is approximately 900 m², located at an altitude of 885 m above sea level, and the site area is around 3 Ha. The function of the Gunung Padang site is thought to be a place of worship for the people who lived there around 2000 years BC, and the residents consider it to be the place where Prabu Siliwangi, the Sundanese king, tried to build a palace overnight. The research results show the possibility of musical involvement from several of the existing megalith stones and their existence makes it the largest stepped punden complex in Southeast Asia. The Gunung Padang tourist attraction is a potential regional leader in the tourism sector that has quite large business opportunities because the surrounding location does not provide adequate facilities and other supporting tourist attractions which could be developed into a regional tourism centre.

    1. The Gunung Padang site is the largest megalithic site in Southeast Asia and even the world.

    2. This site is estimated to be more than 10,000 years old and was probably used for religious activities.

    3. The site complex consists of five terraces of different sizes, with the first terrace being the largest and containing the most megalithic stones.

    4. This site is surrounded by beautiful mountain views and fresh air, making it a popular tourist destination for local and foreign tourists.

    5. The Gunung Padang site has an area of 900 square metres on the surface which is the main complex of this site.

    6. This site is thought to have been first built in 8000 BC and is said to be contemporaneous with the Göbekli Tepe site in Turkey.

    7. The Gunung Padang site has been the object of ongoing research and excavation, with many mysteries still waiting to be solved.

Thus, the Gunung Padang site is an interesting place to visit and is part of Indonesia's rich cultural heritage.
