In this activity you will learn how to make two traditional Japanese sweets: dorayaki (bean paste filled Japanese pancake) and Shiratama dango (mochi dumplings) with fruits and syrup. In order to find the most important ingredients for the cooking class, you will first tour Tokyo's iconic Tsukiji Outer Market and discover amazing local foods and delicacies.
First, meet your guide at Tsukiji-Shijo Station and enjoy a pleasant walking tour around Tsukiji Outer Market at an early afternoon time when the market is not so busy. You can see the stalls and shops leisurely a little before the end of their opening hours. Your guide will introduce you not only the most iconic products sold at Tsukiji - among them fresh seafood, high-rank beef, top-quality kitchen knives and a variety of matcha green tea - but will also help you find the best ingredients for the cooking class that follows the tour. You will choose matcha powder for the dorayaki and seasonal sweets for the Shiratama dango fruit bowl.
After the tour you will go to the guide's private kitchen where the cooking class begins. You will make two different types of dorayaki (classic and matcha-flavored) and two types of Shiratama dango dumplings (with fruits and with black sugar syrup). This experience focuses on common and beloved Japanese sweets that you can easily make also in your home country. Enjoy the sweets you cooked together a bowl of matcha green tea!
