What you can expect

  • Immerse yourself in the elegant world of Japanese calligraphy (shodo) in a quiet, historic tatami room in Kamakura. Guided in a calm and focused setting, this experience offers an introduction to the beauty and discipline of calligraphy as both an art form and a mindful practice.

Begin with a basic calligraphy lecture to learn about the history and background of calligraphy. Try using traditional tools like a brush, ink, inkstone, and washi (Japanese paper). Next, watch an authentic brushwork demonstration by a professional instructor.

Choose a meaningful kanji character and try writing it with a Japanese brush. Then, try writing your name in English. Create an original souvenir by decorating a fan or coloured paper using washi and origami. Take home your wonderful memory in a tangible form.

Finally, enjoy Japanese sweets (wagashi) and Japanese tea in a relaxed atmosphere.
