Southern Taiwan 4-Day Cultural and Coastal Experience
This four-day journey through southern Taiwan blends culture, history, spirituality, and seaside beauty. Starting from Kaohsiung, you will explore Tainan’s historic charm, Kenting’s natural wonders, and Kaohsiung’s vibrant harbour cityscape.
Day 1 – Tainan’s Historical Charm (Overnight in Tainan)
Depart from Kaohsiung and head to Sicao Green Tunnel, known as Taiwan’s “Little Amazon.” Glide through mangrove forests on a peaceful boat ride, surrounded by rich wildlife and reflections of arching trees on the water. Continue to Anping Fort (Fort Zeelandia), a relic of the 17th-century Dutch era, and the Anping Tree House, where banyan roots intertwine with old brick walls. After breakfast, travel to Kaohsiung’s Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, an impressive complex crowned by a massive Buddha statue, representing peace and enlightenment. Continue to Kenting National Forest Recreation Area, home to tropical plants, coral rock formations, and scenic trails offering sweeping ocean views. As night falls, stroll along Kenting Main Street, filled with lively stalls, music, and tropical energy.
Day 3 – Kenting’s Natural Wonders (Overnight in Kenting)
Start with Longkeng Ecological Reserve, an untouched coastal area of cliffs and coral terrain that offers a glimpse of Taiwan’s southern wilderness. Then visit Longpan Grassland, where rolling hills meet the turquoise sea. Explore Eluanbi Park, the island’s southernmost point, crowned by the famous lighthouse known as “The Light of East Asia.” Continue to Sail Rock and Maobitou Park, both sculpted by the sea, offering stunning coastal views and refreshing breezes.
Day 4 – Kaohsiung’s Modern and Historical Highlights (Overnight in Kaohsiung)
Return to Kaohsiung and begin at Xiziwan Bay, famous for its scenic sunsets and calm waves. Visit the Former British Consulate at Takao, a red-brick landmark overlooking the harbour, followed by the elegant Rosary Cathedral Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Taiwan’s oldest Catholic church. Next, explore the Pier-2 Art Centre, a creative zone where industrial warehouses have been transformed into art galleries and cafes. End your tour at the Lotus Pond Scenic Area, home to the symbolic Dragon and Tiger Pagodas — walk through the dragon’s mouth and out the tiger’s to invite good fortune.
