Volcanic chaos:
In 2017, we met agronomist Pedro Parra, with whom we collaborated for two years, investigating the particularities of our soils to identify the nuances of the various terroirs in the different expressions of Ciliegiolo. The volcano immediately stood out: wines that are generally more flavourful, sometimes salty. This tasting aims to introduce you to this other way of interpreting wine, in search of the volcano.
After visiting the underground cellar, we will explain our choices in the ecological management of the vineyards.
We will taste six wines in which the expression of the volcanic soil is evident, illustrating the grapes, the different winemaking techniques, and the ageing process. Some of these wines are extremely limited editions.
The wines to be tasted will be: Ritorno (Etna Bianco Superiore - Sassotondo - a non-profit project that links us through our family to another volcano), Numero Sei (a gentle Orange Wine), Numero Dieci (a more decisive Orange Wine, Greek with long maceration), Monte Rosso (Nocchianello Nero, an ancient, indigenous and almost lost grape variety from Pitigliano), Poggio Pinzo (Ciliegiolo with long maceration in terracotta), Monte Calvo (Ciliegiolo to which a portion of uncrushed grapes gives particular finesse).
The wines will be paired with samples of Flamigni's savoury pastries, an innovative project to enhance the significance of good food pairing.
The winery has been certified organic since 1994 and we are part of the VolcanicWines circuit and members of FIVI - Independent Winegrowers.
When you come to visit us, get ready for a trip to the countryside, immersed in the nature of rural Tuscia. Everything revolves around wine and the vineyard, so we recommend comfortable clothing. Depending on the weather, tastings take place under our patio or in the air-conditioned tasting room.
