After approximately a 100-minute drive, we arrive in Karlovy Vary, where you are welcomed by the forests and rolling hills of the Ore Mountains and the protected landscape area of Slavkov Forest. This region is home to a rich variety of plants, wildlife, and even the rare white-tailed eagle. These forests played an important role in the frequent visits of Emperor Charles IV, which eventually led to the discovery of the hot springs and the founding of Karlovy Vary. From here, we take a scenic descent into the valley of the Teplá River, arriving directly in the historic centre of Karlovy Vary.

Loket Castle & Medieval Town After Karlovy Vary, we continue our journey into the scenic Ohře River valley to the medieval town of Loket. Upon arrival, we explore the impressive Loket Castle, dramatically set on a rocky promontory above the river. You will walk through the castle courtyards and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, while your guide shares stories of its royal history, legends, and strategic importance in Bohemia. After the castle visit, we take a short walk through the charming old town of Loket with its cobblestone streets, historic houses, and peaceful riverside atmosphere — a perfect contrast to the elegance of Karlovy Vary. Optional: visit to a local brewery or small tasting experience, depending on time and interest.

Loket Castle – a medieval fortress above the River Ohře is one of the oldest stone castles in the Czech Republic, dramatically set on a rocky promontory surrounded on three sides by the Ohře River. Originally founded in the 12th century as a royal frontier fortress, the castle later became an important political and strategic stronghold of Bohemia. Today, it is a beautifully preserved historic monument and museum complex offering insight into medieval life, royal history, and regional traditions. During the visit, you will explore the castle courtyards, fortified walls, and atmospheric interiors, including exhibitions of historical artefacts, weapons, porcelain, and the famous Loket meteorite. The castle also features former prison spaces and medieval-style displays that bring its history vividly to life. From the castle walls, you can enjoy panoramic views over the river valley and the charming town below, making Loket one of the most picturesque medieval sites in Western Bohemia.

Optional Lunch Break & Beer Tasting in Loket Enjoy an optional lunch stop in a traditional local brewery housed in a historic building in Loket.
