Don't just walk past the beautiful restaurants in Kyoto—step inside and feast like a local!

Kyoto's Pontocho and Gion districts are globally famous for their historic, atmospheric alleys illuminated by traditional paper lanterns. However, for travellers, navigating these streets can be intimidating. Many of the best, most authentic Izakayas (Japanese pubs) and bars are hidden behind unassuming wooden doors, often without English menus. On this immersive night foodie tour, your friendly local guide will break down the language barrier and lead you to the city's best-kept culinary secrets.

Phase 1: Hidden Izakayas & Authentic Kyoto Food: We start our evening by diving into the narrow, vibrant alleys of Pontocho. We will visit two carefully selected, local-favorite Izakayas that tourists rarely find on their own. Here, you will taste authentic Kyoto cuisine. Savour traditional “Obanzai” (healthy Kyoto home-style dishes) and unique local delicacies like “Yuba” (tofu skin) or “Nama-fu Dengaku” (wheat gluten with miso), alongside classic, hearty Japanese comfort foods.

Phase 2: Kyoto Sake Tasting: Kyoto is historically renowned for its exceptionally pure water, making it one of Japan's most famous regions for brewing Sake. Your guide will help you pair your delicious meals with premium local sake, explaining the rich culture and history behind the drinks. Even if you are new to sake, you will find something you love!

⛩️ Phase 3: Gion Stroll & Secret Bar: With our stomachs happily full, we will take a leisurely stroll through Gion, the traditional entertainment district famous for its Geisha and Maiko culture. Enjoy the breathtaking, timeless scenery of Kyoto at night. To cap off this unforgettable evening, we will guide you to a cosy, hidden local bar. Raise a glass, say “Kanpai!” (Cheers!), and make lasting memories with your guide and fellow travellers.
