Depart from Fukuoka on a unique one-day tour that blends Japan's female-favorite hot spring town with an “Attack on Titan” pilgrimage.
08:00Meet at the Lawson in front of Hakata Station's Chikushi Exit and begin your day's adventure.
10:00 Yufuin (Yufuin Floral Village) – 120 minutes free time
Stroll through the artistic Yufuin hot spring street, lined with handmade dessert shops, lifestyle stores, and small art galleries. Enjoy local specialities such as Bungo beef, kamameshi (Japanese clay pot rice), hot spring pudding, or popular croquettes. Walk along Yunotsubo Street to “Kinrin Lake” —hot spring water flows from the west side of the lakebed and fresh water from the east. The temperature difference creates a dreamy morning mist that often covers the lake. The lakeside Tenso Shrine and its torii gate reflecting in the water make for a perfect photo spot. If you love fairytale settings, head to “Yufuin Floral Village”, a Cotswolds-inspired village with seasonal flowers, a mini zoo where you can interact with cats and owls, and shops selling Ghibli merchandise.
Optional experiences (at your own expense):
Footbath Café: Pass through a red torii gate and enjoy a drink while soaking your feet in front of a wall of lucky cats (approx. 1,500 JPY)
Showa Museum: Step back into a 1950s Japanese streetscape (adults 1,200 JPY)
Yufuin Sansuikan: Relax in a hot spring while gazing at Mt. Yufu (adults approx. 700 JPY)
13:01 Hita Station – 10-minute photo stop
Snap a photo with the Statue of Levi (Levi Ackerman) from “Attack on Titan”. Hita is the hometown of manga creator Hajime Isayama, and this statue is an unmissable first stop for anime fans on a pilgrimage.
13:50 Choose your own adventure – 80 minutes
Pick the experience that suits you best:
Attack on Titan in HITA Museum ANNEX: Immerse yourself in the world of Titans, with original illustrations, setting materials, and intense battle scene displays. Adults 700 JPY / Free for ages 18 and under.
Sapporo Beer Hita Factory: Free admission. Learn about the beer brewing process and enjoy a taste of freshly brewed Sapporo beer.
(If the brewery is closed, the tour will visit Hita's Mameda area instead.)
16:10 Tahoto Pagoda – 50 minutes free time
This pagoda is decorated in vivid vermilion and indigo lacquer, breaking away from the plain look of traditional wooden towers. Locals believe it is a special place where “happiness can be prayed for”. Between June 1 and September 30, you can purchase a wind chime for 500 JPY, write your wish on it, and hang it within the temple grounds — a meaningful gesture, though the chime cannot be taken home.
18:00Arrive back at Hakata Station, ending a fulfilling day.
