Our tour to La Carbonera – Tochecito Canyon starts every day at 8:00 a.m. from Salento, heading to one of the most impressive and least explored areas of the Colombian Andes.
The adventure kicks off aboard a traditional 4x4 Willys Jeep, which takes you up rural roads to around 3,400 metres above sea level. During the journey, we'll make several strategic stops to enjoy panoramic views, take photos and videos, and get information about the history, geography, and biodiversity of the Tochecito Valley.
From the highest point, you'll head back down in the Jeep for about 5 kilometres until you reach the start of an unforgettable hike through the La Carbonera Palm Forest, home to the largest concentration of wax palms in the world, the national tree of Colombia.
The hike, about 5 kilometres downhill, follows natural trails surrounded by giant palm trees and spectacular viewpoints overlooking the valleys and mountains. Along the way, you'll have multiple opportunities for birdwatching, learning about local flora and fauna, and connecting deeply with nature in a quiet and exclusive environment.
At the end of the hike, you'll arrive at a traditional farm, where you'll visit a beautiful natural waterfall, ideal for relaxing, enjoying the scenery, and, if you wish, taking a refreshing dip (optional).
After visiting the waterfall, we'll enjoy a typical regional lunch, prepared with local ingredients and designed to recharge your batteries in the tranquility of the countryside.
To round off the experience in a special way, we'll take a horseback ride of about 40 to 50 minutes, exploring rural trails and open landscapes of the valley, an authentic and peaceful way to keep connecting with the natural environment of La Carbonera.
Finally, we'll head back to Salento in a Jeep Willys, rounding off a day full of nature, adventure, tradition, and unforgettable landscapes.
This tour is perfect for travellers looking for exclusive routes, complete experiences, real contact with nature, and a deep connection with one of the best-kept secrets.
