Our tour to La Carbonera – Tochecito Canyon departs daily at 8:00 a.m. from Salento, heading to one of the most breathtaking and least explored areas of the Colombian Andes.
The adventure begins aboard a traditional 4x4 Willys Jeep, which we use to ascend rural roads to an altitude of approximately 11,155 feet (3,400 metres). Along the way, we will make several strategic stops to enjoy panoramic views, take photos and videos, and learn about the history, geography, and biodiversity of the Tochecito Valley.
From the highest point, we will descend again in the Jeep for about 5 kilometres (3 miles) until we reach the starting point for an unforgettable hike through the La Carbonera Palm Forest, home to the largest concentration of wax palms in the world, Colombia's national tree.
The hike, which covers approximately 5 kilometres (3 miles) downhill, follows nature trails lined with giant palm trees and offers spectacular viewpoints overlooking the valleys and mountains. Throughout the hike, you will have numerous opportunities to spot birds, learn about the local flora and fauna, and connect deeply with nature in a peaceful and exclusive setting.
At the end of the hike, we will arrive at a traditional farm, where we will visit a beautiful natural waterfall, which is ideal for relaxing, enjoying the scenery, and, if you wish, taking a refreshing swim (optional).
After our visit to the waterfall, we will enjoy a lunch typical of the region, prepared with local ingredients and designed to help us recharge our energy amid the tranquility of the countryside.
To round off the experience in a special way, we will go on a horseback ride lasting approximately 40 to 50 minutes, traversing rural trails and the open landscapes of the valley, an authentic and peaceful way to continue connecting with the natural surroundings of La Carbonera.
Finally, we will return to Salento in Willys Jeeps, bringing to a close a day filled with nature, adventure, tradition, and unforgettable landscapes.
This tour is ideal for travellers seeking unique itineraries, immersive experiences, genuine contact with nature, and a deep connection to one of the best-kept secrets.
