Our sightseeing tour to La Carbonera – Tochecito Canyon starts every day at 8:00 AM from Salento, heading to one of the most impressive and least explored areas of the Colombian Andes.
The adventure begins aboard a traditional 4x4 Jeep Willys, in which we ascend rural roads to reach an altitude of approximately 3,400 metres. Along the way, we make several strategic stops to enjoy panoramic views, take photos and videos, and learn about the history, geography, and biodiversity of the Tochecito Valley.
From the highest point, we descend again in the Jeep for about 5 kilometres until we reach the start of an unforgettable hike through the La Carbonera Palm Forest, home to the largest concentration of wax palms in the world, Colombia's national tree.
The hike, approximately 5 kilometres (3.1 miles) downhill, runs along nature trails surrounded by giant palms and spectacular vantage points overlooking the valleys and mountains. Along the way, you'll have multiple opportunities to spot birds, learn about the local flora and fauna, and connect deeply with nature in a peaceful and exclusive setting.
At the end of the hike, we'll arrive at a traditional farm, where we'll visit a beautiful natural waterfall, ideal for relaxing, enjoying the scenery, and, if you wish, taking a refreshing swim (optional).
After the visit to the waterfall, we'll enjoy a lunch typical of the region, prepared with local ingredients and designed to recharge our batteries in the midst of the tranquility of the countryside.
To round off the experience in a special way, we'll go on a horseback ride lasting approximately 40 to 50 minutes, riding along rural trails and through the open landscapes of the valley, an authentic and peaceful way to continue connecting with the natural surroundings of La Carbonera.
Finally, we return to Salento in a Jeep Willys, concluding a day full of nature, adventure, tradition, and unforgettable landscapes.
