This self-guided road bike tour on La Palma is designed especially for ambitious cruise guests and road cyclists who want to experience the island on their own and at their own pace.
The start and ending point is in Los Cancajos, just a few minutes from the cruise terminal and airport. This makes the tour ideal for an active shore excursion with sufficient time for sports and experiencing nature.
After the rental bike is handed over, you will receive a recommended route and navigation material for your personalised tour. You will ride mainly on well-maintained paved roads and quiet side roads that are ideal for road bikes. The low traffic on many sections allows for a safe and focused riding experience.
The route towards the Llano del Jable viewpoint with a view of the Tajogaite volcano is particularly impressive. The route initially runs along the coast and then ascends continuously through various vegetation zones. From the dry coastal area, you will pass through dense pine forests to the higher regions of the Cumbre. This passage combines challenging climbs with unique scenic impressions and a spectacular destination point.
For particularly ambitious riders, there is also the option of an extended supreme stage to Roque de los Muchachos, the island's highest point. With almost 3,000 metres of altitude gain, this challenging route requires very good physical condition and experience in mountain biking. In return, you can expect one of the most spectacular road bike routes in Europe with long climbs, breathtaking panoramic views, and a unique high-mountain landscape above the clouds.
Depending on the route you choose, you will experience La Palma as a training paradise for road cyclists: steady climbs, long stretches without interruption, and fast descents make the island ideal for athletic challenges as well as for extended endurance rides.
The tour is deliberately flexible and allows you to determine the pace, length, and breaks yourself. This makes it suitable for both intensive training sessions and enjoyable road bike tours with a competitive element.
Know before you go that this is a self-guided tour. The rider is responsible for navigation, riding style, and time management. However, the routes are designed in such a way that they mainly run on safe asphalt roads and suitable side roads.
This road bike tour combines athletic challenge, safe routes, and extraordinary experiences of nature on one of the most diverse islands of the Canary Islands.
