Full Description
Discover Costa Rica’s coastal wilderness on a guided kayak and hiking tour through Las Baulas National Marine Park. This eco-adventure takes you into an undeveloped mangrove forest that can only be accessed by water, offering a quiet and immersive experience far from Tamarindo’s busy beaches.
Begin your tour at Pangas Beach Club, where your local guide provides a short safety briefing and basic kayaking instruction. No prior kayaking experience is required. Paddle calmly through mangrove-lined waterways for approximately 40 minutes while keeping an eye out for howler monkeys, iguanas, parrots, herons, and other native wildlife.
At the heart of the park, leave the kayaks behind and continue on foot with a guided nature hike. Walk along forest trails while learning about native plants, ancient trees, and their importance to Indigenous cultures. Highlights include massive pochote trees up to 500 years old, dragon-fruit cactus, wild hibiscus, and the iconic Guanacaste tree.
The hike also includes a visit to an ancient Indigenous archaeological site, where you’ll climb to a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the mangrove canopy — an ideal spot for wildlife observation and photos. After the hike, return to the kayaks for a relaxing paddle back, enjoying refreshments along the way.
Tours are scheduled around the tides and typically start 60–90 minutes before high tide to ensure optimal conditions. Start times may be adjusted after booking, and the local operator will confirm the exact departure time in advance.
