Discover a lesser-known side of Las Médulas, the largest gold mining complex of the Roman Empire, now a World Heritage Site. On this horseback riding tour, you will venture into a historic and untamed setting, following the traces of Roman engineering among canals, wash houses, and ancient waterways.

The experience focuses on the park's large washing area: a valley stretching about 1.9 miles where a completely artificial riverbed was built to wash the material extracted from the mines and separate out the gold. From the area that starts by the Sil River (from Salas de la Ribera), the route ascends through the waste rock area until it reaches one of the most remarkable points along the way: the Palombeira Cave, a rock-cut cavity about 250 metres long and 7 metres high, the only one of its kind in Las Médulas.

After visiting the cave, the descent continues through the El Valgón canyon, an impressive limestone corridor approximately 1 km (0.6 miles) long that was used to channel water from the mine back to the Sil River. Amid rock walls and open landscapes, you will experience the perfect combination of nature, archaeology, and adventure.
