Overview

  • See two countries in half a day, 9:00 to 13:00. Your local host meets you at Copenhagen Central Station, and together we take the train across the Øresund Bridge to Malmö (return ticket included). Few countries have fought each other as often as Denmark and Sweden, and Malmö is where that storey comes alive. Your host tells how the two neighbours were joined in the Kalmar Union, how a Danish king ended his days as a pirate, and how Malmö was Danish until 1658. Today the same city is a short train ride from Copenhagen, and our two countries are the best of friends.

We finish with a Swedish fika, coffee and a pastry, at a café by Lilla Torg. Then stay in Malmö with your return ticket, or ride back with your host. No more than 12 guests.

Created by Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd, it has become a global icon with versions displayed in cities around the world. The Malmö sculpture is a reminder of Sweden’s commitment to peace and dialogue.

Malmohus castle (Pass by)

Malmöhus Castle (Malmöhus Slott) – We will pass by Scandinavia’s oldest preserved Renaissance castle, built by the Danish king Christian III in the 1500s. Once a royal residence and fortress, later a prison, today it houses Malmö Museum with exhibitions on history, art, and natural science. Surrounded by a moat and green parks, the castle is one of Malmö’s most important landmarks and a must-see from the outside.

A classic Dutch-style windmill set inside leafy Slottsparken, a short walk from Malmöhus Castle and the organic Slottsträdgården. We pause here for a short storey about Malmö’s canals, fortress and garden culture, plus a relaxed photo stop with the mill, bridges and water as backdrop.

Slottsparken
