Begin your adventure with a convenient hotel pickup and head to Flic en Flac. Board a private boat operated by a licensed Mauritian skipper and crew. Cruise through the lagoon before heading into deeper offshore areas where whale activity is most commonly observed.
Keep an eye out for sperm whales, which can be seen year-round, and humpback whales, which migrate near the island between June and October. Follow respectful whale-watching guidelines, keeping a safe distance and avoiding disturbing the animals.
While cruising along the west coast, enjoy panoramic views of the Flic en Flac lagoon, the quiet shoreline of Wolmar, and the wide-open Indian Ocean. When the weather is clear, you may also spot the silhouette of Le Morne mountain in the distance. Along the journey, dolphins, flying fish, or seabirds may also appear, adding to the natural charm of the outing.
Because this is a private experience, the schedule is flexible. On some days, whales are located quickly, leaving time for an additional stop in a separate lagoon area away from whale activity. During this extra time, a short snorkelling session may be possible, depending on sea conditions and the remaining duration of the tour.
This optional stop is not connected to whale watching and never takes place near the whales. On days when whales require more searching, the full focus remains on wildlife observation and snorkelling is skipped. This ensures the experience stays respectful, safe, and compliant with local guidelines.
The boat is equipped with the required safety equipment. Juice and light snacks are included, offering simple refreshments during your trip. Guests are welcome to bring additional drinks or personal items if they wish.
After four hours on the water, the skipper will return you to Flic en Flac, where your return transfer will be waiting. Whether you visit during humpback whale season or outside of it, this private outing offers a respectful and enriching way to observe Mauritius’s marine giants and enjoy the beauty of the west coast.
