Why did the Medici have themselves portrayed as the Three Wise Men?
The route begins at the Palazzo Medici Riccardi, the centre of the city's political and financial life. Here, you will visit the Chapel of the Magi, frescoed by Benozzo Gozzoli, where the Medici are symbolically included in a sacred procession, transforming a religious subject into an instrument of dynastic representation.
Continuing towards the San Lorenzo complex, you will see the Basilica di San Lorenzo from the outside, the church of the Medici family designed by Filippo Brunelleschi and a landmark of Renaissance architecture in Florence.
Here, the guide will also delve into the role of the Medici complex, describing the Laurentian Library and the New Sacristy, designed by Michelangelo, with a mention of the famous Medici tombs and the Chapel of the Princes, an important example of Florentine Baroque.
Join the tour and discover how the Medici built their political and religious power in Florence.
