Day 1: Arrival in Mongar – Scenic Drive & Dzong Visit
Begin your journey with a scenic drive through the ThrumshingLa Pass, one of Bhutan’s most beautiful routes. Take in the snow-capped views, alpine forests, and dramatic cliffs. Stop for photos at Namling Waterfall, cascading from the cliffs below the pass.
Arrive in Mongar Town, perched on a gentle slope. Check into your hotel or local guesthouse with panoramic valley views. In the evening, visit Mongar Dzong, one of Bhutan’s newest and most beautiful dzongs. Explore the central tower, prayer halls, and murals. Witness monks at evening prayers if time permits.
Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in Mongar. Optionally, stroll through Mongar’s small town market, try local snacks, and meet friendly locals.
Day 2: Village Life, Textiles & Hidden Temples of Mongar
Drive to Kilikhar or Khunkhar Village, famous for traditional Kishuthara weaving, a rare and intricate silk weaving tradition. Visit a weaver’s home and see the full process: dyeing, designing, and weaving. Optionally, try weaving a few rows yourself.
Visit Jarungkhashor Chorten, a stupa inspired by Nepal’s Boudhanath, known for blessings and peace. Explore Yagang Lhakhang, a small 16th-century temple built by Terton Pema Lingpa’s descendants.
Take a short nature hike to Ngatshang or Tangkhar Village, through terraced rice fields and forested trails. Interact with villagers, observe local crafts, and traditional wooden houses.
In the evening, enjoy a local music and dance performance around a bonfire (if available). Experience a home-cooked dinner with your host family or lodge.
Day 3: Hidden Monasteries & Departure
Drive to Dremetse Monastery, one of Eastern Bhutan’s most revered monasteries. Interact with monks and learn about their daily routines. Return to Mongar or continue your drive towards Trashigang or Lhuentse. Optionally, stop at roadside viewpoints for photos and tea.
