Activity itinerary

Castle of Argos (Larisa)

  • 40m
Argos is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe and the most interesting sightseeing of the city is the castle which displays layers of multiple cultures built over time. Here Ancient and Mycenean cyclopean masonry serve as the bedrock for the Byzantine fortifications. Some more fascinating ruins is the reconstructed mycenaean gate, the cisterns, a chapel of the 12th century and an inscription written in the boustrophedon system.

Pyramid of Elliniko

  • 15m
Europe's only ancient pyramid is a monument whose shape is enough to spark conspiracy theories and national pride follows faithfully, mandating that it is older than the pyramids of Egypt, but is it true or is it nonsense? Perhaps the truth is far simpler than a supposedly unknown civilisation.

Lerna

  • 20m
At the shores of the Argolic gulf is located mythical Lerna, the place where Hercules killed the mythical beast Lernean Hydra in the marsh, together with his nephew Iolaus, and completed the second labour. It features the water source and the mythical Alkyonia Lake. Unexpectedly at the river mouth is located a Second World War military facility.

Vaulted tomb of Tiryns

  • 15m
In ancient Tiryns, in an orange grove, is standing remarkably intact for 3.200 years a royal tomb which one of the few of its kind in Greece. It is believed it belonged to the mythical king of Tiryns Proitos who is immortalised in Homer's Iliad. Noone knows for sure who was buried there because it has been looted since the antiquity.

Mycenaean Bridge of Arkadiko (Kazarma)

  • 15m
The oldest bridge in Europe — and potentially the world — an ancient mycenaean stone structure that remains untouched by time and is functional to this day, part of the historical route that used to connect Mycenae with Epidaurus.
