Guests arrive by boat through the mangroves, slowly leaving roads, towns, schedules, and busy places behind. The journey itself marks the beginning of a different rhythm of life.
Hidden deep within Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula, Sabalo Lodge is surrounded by primary rainforest, wildlife, rivers, and the sounds of nature. This is not a place to simply visit the rainforest for a few hours. It is a place to live in it for a few days.
For three nights, the rainforest becomes part of everyday life. Monkeys move through the trees around the lodge, tropical birds wake guests each morning, and after sunset the jungle comes alive with new sounds and nocturnal wildlife. Here, nature is not something you visit on a tour — it surrounds you from morning until long after dark.
A special part of the experience is spending time with local hosts who have spent their lives in this rainforest. Their knowledge of wildlife, hidden trails, local traditions, and daily life on the Osa Peninsula helps guests experience the jungle in a way that most visitors never do. A morning conversation can turn into a wildlife sighting, a hidden trail, or an unexpected encounter with the rainforest’s incredible biodiversity.
Your stay includes 3 nights of jungle accommodation, daily breakfast, one freshly prepared local meal each day, a guided mangrove wildlife tour, a rainforest night walk, and your choice of a waterfall hike or horseback ride through the jungle. Guests can also explore rainforest trails around the lodge, relax by the pool, paddle through the surrounding waterways, or simply enjoy a hammock while listening to the sounds of the forest.
While surrounded by wilderness, guests still enjoy the comfort of an on-site restaurant, bar, and reception area where additional meals, snacks, drinks, and fresh juices are available throughout their stay.
Many guests arrive looking for wildlife, adventure, and nature. They leave with something more difficult to describe: the feeling of having briefly stepped into another world, where life follows the rhythm of the rainforest.
For those wishing to extend their adventure, additional experiences such as Corcovado National Park, Caño Island snorkelling or diving, private beach boat trips, and guided fishing excursions can also be arranged.
The experience begins in Sierpe, where guests are met for a scenic boat journey through the mangroves to reach the lodge. Guests arriving by their own vehicle can also access the property via the Sierpe River ferry and a rainforest road suitable for high-clearance 4x4 vehicles.
To ensure a smooth arrival, guests are asked to contact Sabalo Lodge via WhatsApp no later than one day before arrival to arrange the exact meeting or departure time.
