Experience the Samurai Spirit Through Authentic Kendo
Step into a genuine Japanese dojo and experience the true spirit of the Samurai through authentic Kendo. This immersive cultural activity goes beyond sightseeing, allowing you to connect with Japanese martial traditions where discipline, respect, and focus unite body and mind.
Designed mainly for beginners and first-time participants, this programme offers a safe, welcoming, and professional environment to experience Kendo from the ground up. Guests with prior martial arts or Kendo experience are also welcome to enjoy exciting yet respectful sparring with a skilled practitioner.
Your journey begins with an introduction to Kendo’s history, its connection to Bushidō—the way of the warrior, and the importance of Reiho, the etiquette that forms the foundation of Japanese martial arts. Kendo is not simply about striking; it emphasises self-control, mutual respect, and personal growth, reflecting core Japanese values such as harmony and sincerity.
Next, transform into a Kendo practitioner by wearing authentic Kendo uniforms (Dōgi and Hakama) and full protective armour including Men, Kote, Dō, and Tare. Holding a Shinai (bamboo sword), you will learn basic posture, footwork, and safety rules under the careful guidance of experienced instructors.
Once the basics are mastered, you will move on to paired practice and take part in a fun, match-style combat experience following real Kendo rules. This challenge focuses on timing, spirit, and focus rather than strength alone, making it enjoyable even for complete beginners.
To complete the experience, enjoy a photo session with Samurai items inside an authentic dojo, creating unforgettable memories of your journey in Japan.
